10-Bit Processing

10-Bit processing is a form of digital signal enchancement found in the Toshiba 47Z3030D Full HD TV LCD. 10-bit processing results in very smooth transitions between different shades of gray (or other colors)., and is an increase on the 8-bit processing channel found on older models.

Dynamic Gamma Correction Control

The Toshiba 47Z303D features a state of the art technology designed to improve the gamma correction of an image on the screen of your Full HD TV LCD. Patented under the United States Patent No #6256010, freepatentsonline.com describes the technology as "A method and means for correcting the γ - curve of an LCD by calculating an inverse γ - curve from the γ - curve of the LCD measured by the manufacturer and producing a straight line V-T plot from the combination, a set of corrected voltages selected from the inverse γ - curve is provided for the different positions or viewing angles of the display, thus improving the γ - curve correction efficiency at different viewing angles of the LCD. In one embodiment, a timing control ASIC, that produces the horizontal scan and vertical scan signals of the display, is used to time the outputting of sets of γ - curve correction voltage signals stored in high speed memories for application, after digital to analog conversion, to the horizontal scan lines of the LCD to be corrected. The ASIC also provides a set of latch enable signals to a set of data latches, which receive the correction voltage signals as input signals from the memories, and provide the corrected voltage outputs, through a set of digital to analog converters (DACs) to a number of output lines connected to the LCD."

Active Vision M100 HD – 100Hz Picture Processing

It is this advanced feature introduced by Toshiba that pushes the 47Z3030D Full HD TV LCD ahead of the current crop of LCD and plasma televisions. Active Vision M100 HD technology creates new frames to appear between the transmitted frames. It receives the broadcast signal and briefly stores the information contained within the consecutive frames. Then using complicated mathematics involving 10-bit video processing and 360 degree motion estimation it calculates the movement required by each pixel of the new intermediate image to take it halfway to the pixels new position in the consecutive broadcast frame.

Dynamic Contrast

Getting the best picture detail from your 47Z3030D requires the right balance between brightness and contrast, too much or too little of either is a problem. Our Dynamic Contrast technology automatically adjusts the LCD panel backlight, depending on the level of brightness required by the original signal.

Dimming the backlight enables the system to reproduce fine detail and render dark scenes more realistically, with blacks having much greater depth. Increasing backlight brightness for scenes requiring more colour, produces more vibrant images with a greater intensity. The process is almost instantaneous, easily coping with fast scene changes, whilst retaining the contrast levels essential for good detail.


Dynamic Gamma Curve Correction

The Gamma Curve refers to the mid-tone contrast in an image and the values will affect the balance of these tones, without any effect on pure white or black. Correction of the Gamma Curve changes the brightness, contrast, colour balance of a combination of all three to keep the important mid-tones consistent.

10-Bit Processing

An LCD television using only 8-bit processing will have to ‘dither’ colours it does not have, to create a near approximation of the colours it does not have within its palette. This can lead to banding of colours, particularly on images when there is subtle difference in colour tones. The Toshiba 47Z3030D circumvents this issue by using full 10-bit processing.
